The biggest purpose that an entrepreneur can ever serve is eradicating “failure of opportunities”. A 64 year old man is serving a tribal area in Kohaku – one of the remotest town of Madhya Pradesh in India, has shown mirrors to many of so called Philanthropists who are practicing Social Entrepreneurship with a hidden agenda.
Just have a look of his past life and family background and you would develop a sense of respect for this individual who has laid his life for resolving existential issues in a tribal community! Alok Sagar comes from Delhi. He studied electrical engineering from IIT (one of the prestigious technical institute in India) and then went to went to United States to obtain his PhD from Houston University, Texas. He returned to India and taught in IIT as a faculty where he taught the former Governor of RBI, Raghuram Rajang.
In the year 1982 (as described in DNA – http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-from-teaching-raghuram-rajan-to-working-on-tribal-upliftment-alok-sagar-continues-to-inspire-at-64-2254854) he left his job and took the plunge of serving a tribal community to work in the areas of women upliftment, infrastructure issues and declining natural resources in the area.
Sagar rides 60 kms to distribute seeds and till now has planted more than 50,000 trees till now. “He has been exceptionally down to earth and simple man who seems to bring action and does not blabber about his degrees”, says Anurag Modi (a co worker).
We generally live in an extreme state of non-fulfilment which further translates into cut throat competition higher salaries and on the ground it widens the gap of the poor and rich in the society. Not all nations who just survive on the Government’s effort to bridge this gap, actually survive! That’s where the Entrepreneur pitches in, an entrepreneur is someone who has a clear vision of bringing life and wellbeing to the people who needs the most. Much of our lives gets wasted in becoming someone else. Alok Sagar is a perfect example of what can degrees and institutions teaches you to do! What we do is more of what we desire and less of what we want. There is time still, and all of us can think to execute it.
